There's a lot to be admired about some children's books, including firm stances on what is Right and what is Wrong. Obviously people disagree on that bit, but I find it really refreshing.

And the prose in Susan Cooper's work is wonderful. Everyone talks like fussy little ten-year-old adults. It was perfect for me, who also talked like a fussy little ten-year-old adult.
