View original postAnd it wasn't THAT bad. Aside from utterly violating the themes and principles of the original story, they got a lot of facts and characterization in the backstory lore wrong.
There is that, obviously - not sure why they couldn't have made up their own main characters for the Elf storyline, with Galadriel appearing in a secondary role like Gil-Galad and Celebrimbor instead. Galadriel could still have held a similar view and could have been basically this new heroine's patron, but in a way that actually fits the lore with her having a family, being Elrond's future mother-in-law, etc., so not gallivanting around the continent hunting Sauron in person. I don't mind it as much with Elrond, it makes more sense to have him as an actual main character, especially since we'll probably get some flashbacks with the backstory of him and Elros, and the origin of Numenor, in some later episode anyway.
And pretty much everything about the ocean part of their Galadriel's storyline was absurd / idiotic - honestly, I liked the sea monster part the best.
View original postBut leaving that stuff, it was a half-decent generic fantasy mystery, and the proto-Hobbit Harfoots are kind of amusing. Some of the acting is suspect and the dialogue can be overblown, with pseudo-intellectual meaningless lines posing as deep thoughts or insights, but there are the visuals and production values, which are pretty good.
I do like Nori and the Harfoots more generally - even if, if that guy is who I think he is, it's another massive violation of the established timeline. Also in the other storylines, even if some of the details are slightly or massively off, they're doing a decent job with the worldbuilding and managing a credible Second Age Middle-Earth atmosphere. And yeah, it all looks amazing obviously.

Or even if you are but can get over the discrepancies.

It's much better than Wheel of Time, but that was an extremely low bar to pass
