Especially in a scientific context; the everyday use of the word to mean something with a decent degree of accuracy could be forgiven, but people pretending to have a degree of knowledge should be able to use it correctly.
Ok, I admit it. It's easy enough to understand what people mean, but I want them to know they are wrong.
