By Obama, the confirmation then went to a Republican Senate. The Senate votes to confirm or not, and can just not vote, as well. This has always been a thing. Everything else is besides the point. Now Trump is going to nominate, and the Senate can vote to confirm or not, or can just not vote as well. The difference is that the President and the Senate are both from the same party.
And there we go....
There are two other Justices which are in their older age (mid 70's if I remember correctly). Which means that there should be two additional vacancies in the next decade or so. The Dem's should plan accordingly.
