LA Riots of 1965:
$357 million adjusted for inflation (AFI)
Baltimore/Chicago/NYC Riots of 1968:
$231 million AFI
Rodney King Riots 1992:
$1.42 billion AFI
Hurricane Harvey 2017:
$20 billion
The jury is still out on the 2020 riots but I expect it to be much more damage than previous riots since its not localized to 1 or a few cities. Low estimates put riots in 25 cities. Many small towns don't receive any attention or coverage because of whats going on in larger cities. And many people expect to see increased destruction leading up to the election and after. And much more if Trump defeats Biden.
Gender Reveal Party:
$8 million
I am less than impressed with your suspicion that the gender reveal party might have costed more than the riots this year.
Or do you assign differing values between $8 million in damage from the gender reveal party and $1.42 billion of the Rodney King riots, for example, to the point that in your mind the gender reveal party is still more costly? Given your propensity for post-modernism, I wouldn't be surprised.
