Thing is, how do you distinguish a principled centrist from an opportunistic one? By definition, they're going to appear indistinguishable from a weathervane. Which explains why so many people on the right <I>and</I> the left have come to abhor them.

Beyond that, what <I>is</I> principled centrism anyway? I'd like a good definition, and I haven't found one.
