I cringe when I hear the President say he has all authority to end restrictions nationwide. Although that has produced the amusing side effect of Leftists suddenly advocating for state's rights.

I don't like the phrasing, but Trump, so whatever. On the other hand, that's one of the more Constitutional actions he's taken. The point of the national government is to guarantee to every state a republican form of government, as opposed to the dictatorships that are going on in many of them. It's his JOB to stop the governors from interfering with our civil liberties.
I am also astounded at the extent to which some Governors have gone. Like the idiot Governor of Michigan where stores have sections roped off and cannot sell any item deemed non-essential. You can't buy a child's car seat or garden plants and seeds but you can still buy lottery tickets. You can be cited by the police for travelling to your in-state vacation home or to the home of relatives but it's okay if you cross state lines.
Police in Raleigh, NC arrested peaceful protesters who were picketing against the shelter at home for violating that exact order.
There is a federal law on the books that any government official who interferes with the rights of the people or their exercise, is liable to a large fine and ten years imprisonment. We have to start making examples of some of the cops and governors. Any executive who imposes martial law or curtails rights in the name of state of emergency, should be required to get a vote to continue the state of emergency for longer than a month or so, and at the end, automatically resign his post and be ineligible for any other executive or judicial position for ten years. And the same goes for anyone who lets them (like a governor who steps aside to let his Lt Gov who's doing his last tour of duty and plans to retire anyway, take the hit, or the executive who appointed the official making the call). Any police supervisor who authorized or ordered these sorts of suppressions or infringements should lose his job and any cop who writes a summons without a basis in actual state law, as opposed to executive fiat, should lose his job as well.
I understand the good of the many argument.
Fuck the many. Where do they get off? The many only matter as an aggregate of individuals. The many would not have rights if individuals did not have them first. Therefore, individual rights trump these nebulous rights of the many. If you don't want to get the virus, protect yourself. Stay home on your own. If you want to go out anyway, you should be allowed to take whatever risks you want.
