The main tunnel was bored, but the emplacement drifts and the stopes/blisters off the drifts were never constructed. Just to be clear, I'm not opposed to nuclear energy. Anything to further our energy independence that also happens to deprive anti-American regimes of cash sounds good. Sign me up for some of that. But the reality is natural gas prices are so low right now that few companies have the stomach go nuclear, what with the high capital costs, regulatory uncertainty ( ridiculous EIS requirements and challenges to them ) and general opposition of the populace. Barring an energy crisis or some soft of technological breakthrough - either a domestic innovation or, more likely to light a fire under our government's ass, a Sputnik moment - I don't see this changing anytime soon.
