Let them believe that their leader is the one calling the shots. Let the N.Korean government (from top down) believe whatever they want. What does it matter? None of that changes the fact that Trump got them talking. That, in and of itself, is a huge thing. That's more than other President's have even attempted to do.
And it's not like any of the sanctions have changed. They are still being strangled. When they start giving up nuke capability, move away from the brutal human rights violations...maybe, just maybe, they will come to realize that the world out here is more prosperous than their world. Little changes add up.
But let's also acknowledge that the media and many "at large" people don't want Trump to succeed. They want his failure. They want to paint him in a bad light. They want to belittle him. He says/does some "non-Presidential" things, but even a few years ago, no one would have dared to have a severed head-likeness of Trump in a photo shoot...or would have called a member of his Administration (or his family) a c*nt.
