Hogwarts houses aren't about "personality traits". They're about values. Dunstan Send a noteboard - 12/05/2018 09:16:38 PM

Aside from, like, totally take over the place so hard Voldemort would hide. They are all Muggle-born, after all, and it is pretty obvious that muggles are superior to wizarding culture, given the ease with which muggle-born adapt to the wizarding world, while even supposed experts on muggle culture, like Mr. Weasly, are totally clueless. Anyway, my question is more to the point of Which House would each major WoT character get sorted into (hopefully with a little more thought about the characters than simply sorting all the Forsaken, Darkfriends and Black sisters into Slytherin)? And if they end up so pathetic that they need to go back to Hogwarts to teach, which (canon) classes would they teach?

Contrariwise, which Ajahs would the various students & faculty at Hogwarts join (Black isn't a whole answer, because they need a real Ajah as well, but specifying which Deatheaters might actually swear to the Shadow and which would balk at that could be interesting)?

Personal thoughts: I honestly believe Egwene would go into Slytherin (to whom I was sort of sympathetic when reading the HP series, just because they seemed to get shit on a lot, and I liked Snape). For good or for ill, she is ambitious, and I seem to recall that being one of their primary characteristics. Aside from a couple of obvious Ravenclaws, I'm basically stuck on Griffindor for, like, ALL the other characters. Although, I wonder, is Ravenclaw really direct parallel for the Brown/White Ajah? Because the Ninja Turtles are all pretty obvious (Leo-Grf, Don-Rvc, Mike-Hfp, Raph-Sly), and Elayne is the closest to Donatello of the main characters, but her other main character trait as defined by fellow characters is suicidal bravery, so she would seem to be Griffendor. Similarly for Nynaeve, whose ethos of service might tempt some to place her in Hufflepuff, but again, re: courage and heroism. I haven't read the books since a year or so after Deathly Hallows was released, so there is also a very strong possibility I am remembering the Houses wrong, or only have a superficial understanding of their respective ethos(es).

Alternatively, into what Houses would you sort the cast of the MCU? The NetflixMCU? The X-men? The Underwhelming Four?

It just occurred to me that this might very well have been a big thing back on wotmania, when I was aggressively indifferent to Harry Potter, and would have been too incensed to participate, engaged as I was in an eternal debate with my younger brother concerning the superiority of our respective favorite fantasy series (I won, once he started reading WoT). Was it? How did that go if it was?

And... I'd say most of the main characters are in Hufflepuff. Loyalty, hard work, determination... That's just what the Two Rivers rises people to believe in. Hell, the borderlands and Aeil as well for that matter. Even with them, while they might LIKE glory, their core concept of honor just isn't about reveling in it like proper Griffendors... Not to say that there wouldn't be quite a strong Griffendor presence with them, just not the majority.

Mind, doesn't always take of course. Egwene almost as Slytherin as they come. While Mat could as easily go Griffendor as Hufflepuff.

Hell, the faction in WoT that likely has the highest number of Griffendors is likely the darkfriends... Ironically enough given that 99% of good guys in HP are Griffendors.

On the flip side... Ajahs are just too much of "a job" to really say who would pick what. The only reason they are even tied to personality traits in the first place is that you're not allowed to change them once picked. Which given that you live for hundreds of years, means you will likely want to pick one you think you will be happy with in the long term.

But just to guess... Likely green, blue, or maybe even red... After all, there's a war going on. Thus they're likely to want to pick one of the Ajahs they think most likely to be able to DO something regarding that.

As far as what WoT characters would "do" in HP... Likely quickly set about dismantling the whole Wizarding World that they, quite justly, would find to be morally reprehensible... I mean by the Light, they teach horny teenagers how to make date-rape drugs IN SCHOOL. They find this FUNNY... Oh yeah, they also play around with peoples minds against their will as a matter of course.
