I'm not sure what sorts of books other people read, but the ones I tend to pick are often dense, long and in foreign languages. If I were reading breezy fiction like Dan Brown or Neil Gaiman I'm sure I would overperform the five year plan 50 book challenge.

As it is, I try a 30-book challenge, which I usually hit. You can see my running list of books since 2006 in my profile.


I too read dense and often long books and make it to 50 almost all years. Lots of history and I can usually manage to read an hour or more a day. A good amount of science fiction, fantasy, literature, and science books mixed in too. I don't read books in foreign languages, however. If I did in German, my numbers would go way down as my ability to read in German is nowhere near that of my English.
