They weren't the owners, that was the Republic/Senate Cannoli Send a noteboard - 19/12/2017 01:38:05 PM

Clones were slaves modified to not even have the will to resist their bondage.

The Jedi were actually the protectors of the clone soldiers. Not too many exploiters lead their victims from the front, wielding a defensive weapon that protects their supposed victims in the rear.

While the making and exploiting of clones is an abomination, they were already there. Master Dias is the sole owner of guilt in that regard. When it came to the wars, the Jedi's choice was to refuse to lead their slave army, which would not have prevented its deployment, except under the guidance of brand flag officers, in a state with no military tradition or institutional experience, which is a recipe for mass slaughter. At least the Jedi have the guidance of the Force. Accepting leadership of the clone armies is the best thing they can do for the clones, and should have enabled them to prevent abuses of military power or war crimes as well. The real problem for the Jedi is getting involved in the war in the first place, regardless of how it was being fought. That the Republic was willing to deploy slave soldiers to suppress functioning states from exerting their sovereignty should have been a clear warning that this ship of state is absolutely not one to whose mast you should nail your flag. But they did, and that was the cause of their downfall and what made them susceptible to the ploys of Sidious.

Also, in any slave system, the true owner/master of a slave is the one who can order him to murder other accused owner/masters. That would be the Supreme Chancellor, who has no known Jedi constituency.

Also also, free will is arguably a definitive function of a person. If it has no free will, it can't be a person, and therefore, not a slave.
