And in fact lately I've been rating this higher and higher on my political priority list. It was especially obvious in the Republican primaries last year - candidates like Kasich and Rubio were looking ahead and trying to push positive, hopeful messages, while Cruz and Trump seemed to campaign on doom and gloom and how terrible life supposedly has become for conservatives / Christians / white Americans. 'Make America Great Again' instead of 'hey, America's a pretty nice place and here's how we'll make it even better'.
No doubt you are more focused on the fearmongering or doom and gloom on the liberal side, which I can also see - at times it must seem like the more progress is made in overcoming sexism and racism, the more liberal politicians harp on those topics, rather than the other way around. Certainly in the Democratic primary, neither camp seemed particularly positive, despite coming off an 8-year Democratic presidency.
National renewal (or rather the appeal to it) seems to be bipartisan.
