I just figured out how to fix Star Trek: The Next Generation (albeit about 30 years too late)

"...to boldly go where none have gone before!"
It's still a dramatic statement with connotations of daring exploration, rather than checking a place that has been overlooked until now, but the tiresome people who get obsessed about gender-specific words don't have anything to complain about!
I should probably watch a third episode of the show so I can figure out what other mistakes I could have been solving.

...why is this preferable to "where no one has gone before?" *NM*

Because "no man" fits the dramatic tone of the prior clauses, and "no one" does not
