Does the mention of slavery, in any way, shape, or form, automatically make it controversial?
The song isn't advocating slavery. It is referencing it?
And since we're on the topic, you know the song "Amazing Grace"... which I find interesting that people sing and turn to in times of grief... especially since that Amazing Grace they are singing about comes from God alone....
But I digress...that song was written by a slave owner. You know... owned people. Like actually kidnapped people, sold them into slavery. The song was written by him. Yet not a peep. I'm guessing that a man who repented and found redemption is ok, but a song which references but does not advocate, is controversial.
