I'm not retreating to a keep when I say feminism is about equality of the sexes in response to someone who claims feminism is about making women superior to men (the popular "I'm not a feminist; I'm egalitarian" gambit). Feminism is about equality of the sexes.
The various positions I support as a feminist that offend alleged egalitarians are not sneaky extensions of my philosophy into gynocracy. They're positions that I believe are necessary to achieve actual equality, which I believe to be more complicated a goal than simply saying "women can be lawyers and doctors now."
Now, people can reasonably disagree on this, but they shouldn't assume bad faith on my part when I say feminism is about equality. They should engage me about how my positions do or do not support that goal.
