An irritatingly large issue here in Connecticut, was this past Sunday's ... damookster Send a noteboard - 20/06/2017 04:43:10 PM

..."Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly," featuring her interview with Alex Jones. For any who don't know, Jones is a far-right conspiracy theory blogger and radio show host who has claimed the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting was a government hoax.

The fact that NBC was giving national exposure to this clown provoked furious cries of outrage from Connecticut's thriving snowflake community. Our Governor and Senators, all Democrats, joined the chorus of those calling for NBC to do the right thing and drop the interview from the show. Lawyers representing 12 families who lost loved ones that day, wrote letters to NBC calling for the same. Sponsors were deluged with letters and emails threatening boycotts, with the predictable response that several cancelled their ads. Some not only for this show but for the Sunday night CT NBC news as well. Local newspapers and radio shows agreed, calling this a "no-brainer." Finally, the local NBC affiliate announced it was refusing to carry the show, to the praise of nearly all.

I listened to and read this growing clamor all last week with an ever increasing sense of disgust at the continued wussification of this country. One does not deal with an asshole like Alex Jones by denying him all access to air his views. Once upon a time, 60 Minutes made a very nice living by allowing these crackpots to make fools of themselves on national TV, usually with the late Mike Wallace performing the honors. Megyn Kelly attacked Jones throughout the interview, challenging his claims, to which he homina, homina'ed most of his replies. Generally speaking, this does not enhance one's credibility except among those who already choose to believe everything he says. Those who did not want to hear his bullshit had every right to exercise their choice by not watching - which is what a lot of people did. Ratings for this show were significantly lower than the previous week's interview with Putin.

This is just another example of hate speech is not free speech happy horseshit running rampant. It makes me happy that at 64, I will likely be well into my permanent dirt nap before this generation is running the world.
