it's pretty damned hilarious that thomas jefferson was obviously pissed at what this country had become... by freaking 1820. just read a letter of his to a guy asking for legal advice around that time, and he's ridiculously humble, wary of public scrutiny, and it's clear he's out of the game and that it's become so convoluted that he's super happy about it.
