someday i will descend on the town, dark and hairless,
quivering in wet relief --
i will be writing books but not
with words on paper, rather
"gestures in the sky!" i will cry,
and little girls will go running,
old love interests will go limping
toward statue of Virgin weeping
honey tears -- i will laugh
at my friends who come to see the spectacle, saying:
"i've only had two beers!"

in the scrutinizing silence
which must follow this comment
i will excuse myself to the bathroom
and commence whispering secrets
to the wall above the urinal,
just as i have done since day one,
4 1/2 years in and out of bars
(this is why we've come so far,
to abuse the urinal's confidence)

and when i return from the bathroom
i won't be making any sense --
the conversation will have changed
the scenery will have changed
the bar's name and its occupants,
all changed, my friends gone
the weather warmer or colder
by at least 10 degrees whichever way,
and i'll weave through the cigar
smoke and haze to find
the Original Purpose, the random capital
which is accrued when a word is used
just as a word, a gesture made
into the empty sky
