I just finished my first essay ever. I never had to write them back in high school. Let us just say that I somewhat underestimated the time it would take me to write it.

No, I never had to write essays.
It was all tests and exams. Writing an essay is harder than it looks. I suppose I can only get better at it as I do more of them.

Though this is still pretty surprising that you've never written an essay before college, unless you're using a pretty rigorous definition of what constitutes an essay. Where did you go to high school? Based on your profile, I'm assuming in India?
Yeah, I went to school in India
I never got any written homework that resembles anything like an essay. We did have essay writing as part of our English syllabus but the word limit was, iirc, 250 words and I only needed to write them during exams.
