There is another site I go to where I pretend to be someone else. I pretend to be a different gender than I really am.
I made friends with someone from across the ocean and they fell for the pretend me. I told that person that it was pretend, though I didn't tell them more than that. They still think I'm who I pretend to be. They took it more seriously than I did and now they are mad at my pretend self.
I can't stop pretending to be the person I'm pretending to be as I'm paid up through June.
The other person was all concerned about our age difference, and it was when I told them that the age difference didn't matter as it was all pretend anyway, that's when they got mad at me.
I can't stop being the person I am pretending to be so don't even suggest that.
I know, I'm a fuckwitz.

Yes
yes you are
yes yes you are.
but at least you're trying to make it right. and after June it is not an issue, yes?
What they said....
But also...why? I mean is it just morbid curiosity to see if you could actually do it? I can understand that at least....or was it something else?
You get paid for BSing people?
WTF?
I don't think they get paid
I think they meant they've paid for their membership all the way through June. So...it's probably to a dating website where you have to pay to talk to people.
No I don't get paid to BS people and NO it's not a dating site, it's a game site
I started out with three avatars but one did better than the other two so I paid for a subscription for that avatar. I built a persona for that avatar. I didn't expect to be asked to join a group. When asked to join I was all like WTF, why should I join your group, how will joining you be beneficial to me? Anyway the recruiter person told me all the reasons why it would be good for me to join their group so I did. Keeping to my persona. I became friends with someone in the group. Actually more than friends. I really like that person. I don't want to loose their friendship.
I know if I told them the truth it would be all over for me and to tell you the truth I enjoy the flirting. It's amazing how successful a person can be at flirting when they know what the other person wants to hear. I'm not going to stop pretending. I just needed to get all this off my chest.

Ohh okay, gotcha. *NM*
It's none of my business, but that's very unhealthy.
It's not good for you to enjoy yourself by pretending to be not yourself, nor is it good for the person you're using for fun. You don't have a friendship with that person.
I guess I should clarify-
playing games and using personas is all well and good- fun, yes. However, knowing someone likes the pretend you and saying you like them too and are willing to keep lying (yes, at that point it's not a game) because it's fun is neither healthy nor friendship. It's not the person you don't want to lose, it's the enjoyment.
I agree with Nossy
Re: I'm not who I pretend to be
If you like this pretend version of yourself, maybe you should analyze this whole situation, how you came to it, and how you can incorporate more of that personality into your own. However, I do agree with some of the afore posters-- this isn't healthy. Yes, people get paid to act, but they have a set, with other actors, and they are not going out into society to coerce, manipulate, and enmesh other human beings into false situations. If you were doing this in person, I would have a bigger problem with it; but even still, it isn't right to play other people. Yes, roleplaying is a viable outlet for people, and rpgs are one of those outlets...you should mention this to the person that "fell" for your avatar and explain that you never meant to harm anyone, and did not realize the person was taking everything so seriously. Who knows, maybe said person is pulling the wool over your eyes too.
