Xenosaga 1, 2, 3 (Though you can skip 1 and 2 and read the synopsis of them on 3, it is pretty thorough and will get you caught up.
Star Ocean 3: Til the End of Time was pretty good, but a LOT of people didn't like the plot twist near the end.
Radiata Stories was fun for me.
Disgaea is a tactical RPG and one of the best ever made
