If there are no consequences, then the role-playing decisions are aesthetic.

The Jack vs. Miranda thing is meant to be a part of that. How often does the real captain of a crew like this have perfect loyalty from all of them? Especially from such wildly varied personalities? Never, really. I think it is fantastic that Bioware set things up so that it is difficult to make it through the game with everyone surviving and loving you. Because that's more believable.

Your argument is strange to me. To my ears, you're complaining that you want more role-playing, and your reason for that is so that you can have an outcome that is almost the antithesis of role-playing: a perfect outcome, where regardless of your actions and role, you win and gain the perfect everything.

Which is not to say that I think Bioware executed some of this stuff as well as they should have - the Jack vs. Miranda scene in particular felt extremely forced and artificial to me - but at no point do I think they made a mistake in requiring you to have a high paragon or renegade score to gain a flawless outcome.
