Rock Band is great- especially since it lets both of them play at the same time, with their friends.
Never played R&C myself, but I've heard good things about the more recent games, and it looks kinda "cartoony" No idea if it's age-appropriate (Conker's Bad Fur Day-induced paranoia!) but I'd say give it a look.
A lot of the best games for PS3 are more "mature" oriented. GTA 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Assassin's Creed 2, Dragon Age, Bioshock 2, Infamous, Prototype...
Valkyria Chronicles was fun. It's an action strategy wargame- but it's all generic anime themes. Lots of "power of love," stalwart heros, and shiny happy violence, instead of depressing gory violence/
