That's the only answer I can think of. Push something absolutely atrocious out there so that when they hear our cries and scale it back to something that's merely monstrous, people swallow it.
That or someone at the top of the food chain is utterly batshit. Whatever the case, this is the reason my console game purchases outnumber my PC game purchases over 10:1. Some day, we will all look back on this era of PC gaming and lament it.
