Because I want to see how the game turns out if I were making those choices in reality. So I always make the "good" choices in most situations except in the ones where you have the choice to let a murderer/rapist/psychotic asshole walk or not. In such cases I always pull the trigger.
Speaking of which, I cut Zevran's neck after meeting him. So much for that potential party member.
If you take him on and don't do all you can to make him happy (and that includes having man on elf assassin action) he turns on you later and tries to finish what he started.
