I had played it before, back when it required a subscription. (I've at least tried almost every MMO.) There's a lot to like about the game. Thanks to the multiclass system, it has the most character customization of any MMORPG I have played. For abilities that is, the most customizable for looks is probably still CoX. DDO's new Reincarnation mechanics look nifty too. I may have to try to get the Completionist feat.

And as you say, it's free to play now, which is very nice. So anyway, that's my new game for now.
