Counter-Strike started out as a mod for the original Halflife, as did several other series. There was a mod for Quake that let you play chess with the monsters. There are also mods who mostly improve online/competitive play by adding features relevant to that who the original devs didn't think of/prioritize, or add extra useful stuff to the UI (in WoW, for example).

The thing I like about WoW is that the best mods eventually find a way into a later game patch.

Team Fortress also started as a Quake mod, which led to TFC and TF2, inspired Borderlands, etc. *NM* - 01/12/2009 04:14:14 PM 270 Views
