If so, that's ridiculous, and yet another console concession that the PC version will suffer from.
I know, it sounds like I've nothing positive to say about MW2 here. It just annoys me that a game series that was born on the PC has come to this point.

I don't know about the PC version. According to the IW website, there were some new features just for the PC version concerning online play.
But even COD4 was locally hosted on Xbox. I don't know how many game just ended on Modern Warfare because the host up and quit the game for what ever reason. Atleast MW2 has enabled host migration so the game doesn't end, it just switches to a new host. Was COD4 (PC version)like that? Did the game just end when someone quit?

It shows that IW developed it, rather than Treyarch. Is it true though that mp is locally hosted?

Only if locally hosted, which was lame to do on a PC. To IW's credit, Steam is a decent setup...
