Also, about the bugs, testing is typically something that's done towards the end of a product's lifecycle. If their development time was unexpectedly cut short, why wouldn't you expect more bugs than usual? I'd think that would be as much Lucasarts' fault as the storyline issues.
The problem with on the fly testing is that you have to focus on the major defects. Most major defect fixes break smaller things that were working before a big fix. Regression testing, making sure fixes don't break unexpected things, is the absolute last thing done before code is locked and the software/game goes live. I'm guess the testing/fix cycle was rather slap and dash with no real regression process.
