Re: I hear there is a lot of resistance to 4th Edition D&D Macharius Send a noteboard - 21/10/2009 07:23:56 PM
4th Edition sounds stupid. I sort of...decided...not to post what books I had for D&D 3.0/3.5. I bought them more as a curiosity since I don't play roleplaying games anymore. The 4th Edition was a great reason to end that useless hobby, but after having bought 28 official hardcover books (not counting the 3 that were adventures, in which case I bought 31) and a couple of non-TSR books as well...it was time to stop buying roleplaying books and accessories (the thousands of pre-painted plastic miniatures have a separate shelf in my games closet).

In my own mind, I've interpreted 4th Edition to be a translation of a game from a "computer format" (specifically from the MMO-style) to pen and paper. Encounters are supposed to be vastly less challenging to design, but what I've heard from many in my local gaming community is that it sacrifices a lot of the "roleplaying" parts at the same time and that "it just doesn't feel like D&D".

Nevermind that 4E was released only several years after 3.5E, a blatantly transparent move by WotC to milk (bilk?) the entire RPG community for millions of dollars.

Like you, my current DM has a staggering variety of miniatures. I don't think he has D&D or AD&D, but he has all of the AD&D Second Edition books and most/nearly all of the 3/3.5 books.
