I love this series. Its been a blast from the very beginning. The mechanics and story are top notch. These people are masters at setting the mood. There are things which are consistent from game to game, but they add stuff in to keep it fresh.

Case in point...for this 3rd game, they have added in the optional quests. This makes the game so much more fun. They were great before, but now it just added that little bit of something that was needed. Besides that, they had this whole section of the game where the player could do all sorts of Zero G space exploration. Since you were in space, you had to keep an eye on your air gauge...but that just made it fun.

I hope that some of you out there are playing this game/series. It has put me on edge like no game since the first Silent Hill. Just last week, I walked into a room....I was sure that I was gonna get attacked. Well, here I was checking the corners...keeping an eye on the ventilation ducts (they like to come out of those)...and staying away from the ladder down to the next floor, when I got too close to the pin-ball machine which was in this room.

It turned on, which prompted me to freak out. I pulled the trigger a bunch of times and wasted a clip of ammo (which isn't easy to come by). Besides this, in real life, I kicked out with my foot....hit the bottom of the table (hurting my toes)...and knocked my drink into the bag of chips.

If a game can get you to react physically, then it has done its job to entertain me.

[EDIT: So I've now finished the game. Love it. I seriously think that this is one of the more under-rated game series. Good, deep story. The created universe is fantastic. It has a unique mythos. The game mechanics are almost perfect.

For those who aren't fans of loose threads, this game wraps up plenty of those. If this series does not progress to a fourth game, that is ok. The story has been wrapped up well, and I'm happy with the ending. Yes, with some good writing, they could do another one. However, it would be a stretch, and would take away some of the feeling/emotion from the end of #3.

So yes, if you wanna put yourself in a mode where you have to wrestle with your own emotions (typically fear-pee terror) while keeping an accurate shot...this is the game/series for you. But beyond that, if you want an interesting story with great voice acting, then give this series a try. It is worth it. ]
