My gaming focuses heavily on real-time strategy games, notably StarCraft and its sequel and turn-based strategy games like Heroes of Might and Magic, and I've always been under the impression that those basically didn't exist on consoles. I've played StarCraft on the N64 and the less said about that the better.
I used to play more RPGs - I have some good ones for the SNES, and I have some PC ones like Baldur's Gate - but I've soured up to them a lot recently. I've never even bothered to finish Dragon Age: Origins or Chrono Cross, both of which I have on good authority are actually excellent games and based to some degree on my favourite RPGs.
Aside from that, I occasionally play fighting games, but only with a group of friends, so I'm not really motivated to buy a console for that. I have Super Smash Brothers: Brawl and I haven't even unlocked the secret characters yet.
Then there's shooters, which are somehow common on consoles though I can't understand how you're supposed to play one of those without a mouse. I guess a wiimote would be tolerable, but with a joystick? Insane. While it's not a shooter, I've played Batman: Arkham Asylum on both the PC and the X-Box, and the difference in response time is massive. Moving the camera with a joystick is just ridiculous. Anyway, it's a moot point since shooters give me motion sickness and I can't play them at all, but I just don't understand this at all.
So that's what I imagine when I think about modern console games (older consoles obviously had an abundance of platformers and such) but like I said, I haven't really been paying attention, so I was wondering what was available.
