There are games that focus on story, that focus on graphics, that focus on gameplay, that focus specifically on the aspect of gameplay which is combat, and so forth. No game can be superb in all of the categories. Sometimes we're lucky if it even manages to be decent rather than dismal in some of them. Sure the combat in Skyrim is fairly simplistic, compared to games like Demon/Dark Souls, or even Witcher 2, but it's still a lot more complex than what is typically found in RPGs, and it succeeds in plenty of other areas, so I find it a forgivable fault.
Skyrim has faults, and plenty of them, and I'm quite fond of pointing them out, but I don't think that the combat is one of them. It could be improved, but it could also be a lot worse, and it's more than adequate.

I refuse to get started complaining about Elder Scrolls games. I'd be here all day. *NM*
