Raise Dead spells are divine, so you don't need to purchase them, you just need to have the level. Druids don't get it, but Jaheira has the equivalent Harper's Call spell. Of course, you only get that kind of experience in Baldur's Gate II, so for the entirety of the first game, you pretty much need not to die. Carrying a dead character's equipment is ridiculously annoying too. Thankfully Baldur's Gate allows you to save at any time outside of encounters.

The equipment limitation is already annoying enough, even with a full 6 character party, at least for a packrat like me who wants to try to gather up every arrow, bullet, and other worthless piece of junk I run into. With a dead character it becomes almost impossible to function. As for Jahneira's spell, I don't know... I don't recall it. Or maybe I saw it while I was first scanning through her spells and thought nothing of it, and then forgot it existed. I'll have to check again, because if she does already have it, it will be (no pun intended) a real life saver.

Damn, randomised loot is probably the dumbest thing. If you contrast Baldur's Gate to Neverwinter Nights, at least in the former you knew you were going to get good loot when you killed humanoid characters, since they were likely to be wielding magical weapons and armour. And Mages always had wands and scrolls. In Neverwinter Nights they'd just drop standard loot.

That's disappointing. Although in BG2 I'm already starting to notice that +1 and +2 equipment really isn't that rare or special, since I'm still near the beginning and already gathering quite a collection of various weapons I have no need for with those enchantments. The key is to remember that when it comes time to sell off my loot, since I have a tendency to hoard items that I perceive as rare or especially valuable.

As for Final Fantasy, I've only played I, IV, V, VI and VII. And Tactics. And Mystic Quest (which is terrible). Actually, that's a fair number of games now that I look at it. VI is definitely the best. I love how the game actually gives you a huge cast of characters, and incentive to use many of them (rather than say, picking three and going with them any time you can, say Chrono-Frog-Lucca/Magus :P).

Magus is indeed the best, although I don't think I ever used Lucca. I really need to play VI and Tactics. I have both, just never got around to playing them for more than a half our each. I don't think I will ever go further into the past than that though. But for you I'd highly recommend at least trying out Final Fantasy IX. It's probably my favorite out of the ones I've played (VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2 XII, XIII, XIII-2). Although admittedly, my assortment of played Final Fantasies is probably much weaker than yours due to the last 4 entries.

Psychonauts was worth it. The art direction helped it to age pretty gracefully, too. *NM* - 17/07/2012 03:07:54 PM 458 Views
Psychonauts is only 7 years old, so it's not that old yet - 17/07/2012 11:02:09 PM 799 Views
