Installation confers minor performance benefits and a small noise reduction (no spinning disk). Nothing huge by any means. I rarely go back and play old games, but even when I do I can just pop in the disk and have virtually the same experience as I get with an installed game.

The other guys are right; 4gb is not enough space. That's still the model you should buy, though.
