I'm pretty sure SimCity 2000 was the first game that I ever really got into.

And what a great one it was. Still annoyed, though, that the only reward you got for filling an entire plot with Arcologies + supporting infrastructure was the explosion of all your hard work and a trite, "they've gone off to found moon colonies!" popup box. I've maintained that grudge for some 15-20 years, now.
