Doth anyone know of a game that awards morally ambiguous players? I'm so tired of these games that have light and dark character paths, via dialogue choices, etc. You get cool abilities for being good and you get badass abilities for being evil. Never once, in my 27 years of life, have I a seen a game with cool abilities for those who stick to the middle. I want a gray character, damn it! I want to make good and bad choices, or choices that could be considered bad but were for the greater good.

But noooooo, you're awarded squat for picking neutral choices. Most people, I think, are morally gray. We're good, sure, but we make bad people sometimes too. Maybe a good game could combine the good abilities with the evil ones and have a whole different subset. For example, say a good power is to heal people. Say a evil power is to drain a persons lifeforce. A good gray power could be that you heal a person but at the same time you drain their energy. So the dude is alive but won't be moving around for a while. That's a dick move on your part, but you still saved the guy.

Besides, how fun would it be to be able to make good choices and evil ones? Usually, like in Mass Effect, I play through the game as a good character and then play through it again with an evil character. It's fun to see the results of making both choices. Well, why not mix it up with one character? There's times when I'm playing good but I get this awesome evil choice. But I have to wait for my evil playthrough to see it. Would be nice if I could just decide to be good or evil at a whim.

Any games like that?

"Netural" isn't about picking "good and evil" choices. - 20/09/2011 04:59:42 PM 573 Views
It'd be pretty difficult to specifically reward you for being a 'gray' character. (Two games) - 20/09/2011 05:02:28 PM 707 Views
Take Knights of the Old Republic, for example - 20/09/2011 05:08:04 PM 624 Views
That's not so much an alignment as just metagaming the system. - 20/09/2011 09:27:49 PM 565 Views
thank you for phrasing that better than me *NM* - 20/09/2011 11:11:54 PM 264 Views
Maybe I didn't explain right - 20/09/2011 11:19:51 PM 526 Views
I'd say that's evil. - 21/09/2011 03:00:32 AM 694 Views
of course, then you get into question of whether actions like that example are evil - 21/09/2011 04:03:03 AM 578 Views

That's actually a pretty narrow view of Neutral when it comes to Alignment or Morality. - 21/09/2011 02:19:34 PM 559 Views
I thought I had allowed for what you said. - 21/09/2011 04:33:30 PM 500 Views
It's not a neutral outlook - 21/09/2011 06:27:27 PM 622 Views
See, what you're talking about IS in fact considered EVIL. - 21/09/2011 08:33:30 PM 561 Views
You might want to try The Witcher series. - 21/09/2011 05:16:05 AM 546 Views

they don't reward it because, for the most part, they don't want you taking a middle ground. - 21/09/2011 07:10:48 PM 520 Views
Well that's just stupid. Tired of picking the 2 sides over and over *NM* - 21/09/2011 08:02:11 PM 289 Views
Neutrality is often boring or selfish. Good stories seldom have truly neutral protagonists. *NM* - 22/09/2011 06:27:05 PM 270 Views

I don't care if it's complicated so long as it's clear. - 22/09/2011 08:27:46 PM 535 Views
I agree with this, actually. *NM* - 22/09/2011 09:17:23 PM 279 Views
