Doth anyone know of a game that awards morally ambiguous players? I'm so tired of these games that have light and dark character paths, via dialogue choices, etc. You get cool abilities for being good and you get badass abilities for being evil. Never once, in my 27 years of life, have I a seen a game with cool abilities for those who stick to the middle. I want a gray character, damn it! I want to make good and bad choices, or choices that could be considered bad but were for the greater good.
But noooooo, you're awarded squat for picking neutral choices. Most people, I think, are morally gray. We're good, sure, but we make bad people sometimes too. Maybe a good game could combine the good abilities with the evil ones and have a whole different subset. For example, say a good power is to heal people. Say a evil power is to drain a persons lifeforce. A good gray power could be that you heal a person but at the same time you drain their energy. So the dude is alive but won't be moving around for a while. That's a dick move on your part, but you still saved the guy.
Besides, how fun would it be to be able to make good choices and evil ones? Usually, like in Mass Effect, I play through the game as a good character and then play through it again with an evil character. It's fun to see the results of making both choices. Well, why not mix it up with one character? There's times when I'm playing good but I get this awesome evil choice. But I have to wait for my evil playthrough to see it. Would be nice if I could just decide to be good or evil at a whim.
Any games like that?

It'd be pretty difficult to specifically reward you for being a 'gray' character. (Two games)

Take Knights of the Old Republic, for example

That's not so much an alignment as just metagaming the system.

of course, then you get into question of whether actions like that example are evil

That's actually a pretty narrow view of Neutral when it comes to Alignment or Morality.

You might want to try The Witcher series.

they don't reward it because, for the most part, they don't want you taking a middle ground.

Neutrality is often boring or selfish. Good stories seldom have truly neutral protagonists. *NM*
