The 360 is not in an enclosed space, you've got 6 inches or so clearance around the vents, the room you're playing in isn't 90+ degrees, and the fan is pushing a reasonable amount of air out the back?
Assuming all of the above is true, the only thing that makes sense is just to send the box in. Whether the glitch is software or hardware related, there's not going to be much you can do. Software is locked down, and doing anything hardware related will void your warranty. I'd say give Microsoft a call, tell them what's up, and let them take care of it.
