Who cares what specific sub-genre it fits in? A good game is a good game. Mass Effect 2 changed up Mass Effect 1's formula quite a bit, and was widely regarded as a great title. Bioware is a big company with a strong track record; you really think ME3 won't be worth playing just because they're trying to appeal to a wider audience?

I thought ME2 was fairly good, but really I only got it and played it because, sad as it is to say, I'm Bioware's bitch. Their good track record is going to ensure that I keep eating out of their hand until they really mess up, and so far they haven't gotten that bad. But I do think that ME2 took about two steps forward from the original Mass Effect, but it also took three steps back. It was hardly a better game than the original in my opinion, and I think altering it even further will make it worse.

But no, ME3 will certainly be worth playing. I was overly melodramatic in my previous post. However I don't think that they are improving Mass Effect with their changes, and considering what I've heard about Dragon Age 2, I am of the opinion that they are starting to slip. So will ME3 be worth playing? Yes. Will I play it? Certainly. Am I going to anticipate it and follow its news updates, and get it the moment it comes out? Not at all.

Nah. I love RPGs, but I'm okay with the series not being a "real" RPG. - 05/05/2011 10:02:35 PM 565 Views
