I just killed a goat with my dagger, and I have no idea why.

Here King's Quest lies, my friends, my first gaming memory EVER. My dad must've been pretty progressive, for when I was but a wee lad we had an old Tandy 5000 (?) computer and several games for it, including the first three King's Quest games, eventually. I decided to bow to supreme power of nostalgia and purchase these from GOG, and man, what a trip. This came out the year I was born! But I remember some of this shit like its second nature. Right after I started, I went left of the castle, moved a rock, reached in a hole, and pulled out a dagger. Fuckin' A.
What's amazing to me is how beneficial this game would've been to the development of an adaptive intelligence. There's a SERIOUS level critical thinking required to accomplish anything, and even though I probably had help from my older brother, I still had to know how to type everything I wanted Sir Graham to do, which meant learning to spell "cupboard" correctly.
Anyway, for being basically the first adventure game ever, this holds up remarkably well, in terms of its production and ingenuity of gameplay. Especially considering there are about five total names to its credit. I am so stoked to relive this. I can't wait to get on to III, when you begin as an evil wizard's apprentice and have to escape his house. Man!
