Just wondering if anybody saw the Black Ops commercial that aired this weekend? It featured Kobe Bryant, Jimmy Kimmel and a slew of 'average' people in the middle of a live battlefield with real weapons shooting live ammo and generally blowing stuff up.
As I watched I was equally fascinated and horrified. I love first person shooters and military tactical shooters, but I guess I never thought of it like the commercial portrayed it: gamers locked in combat with each other.
The Jimmy Kimmel and Kobe Bryant cameos were awesome, hilarious, and mildly disturbing.
The tagline, "There's a soldier in all of us," closed the commercial and my stomach turned when I saw it.
Real soldiers are dying every day all around the world. Real non-combatants are dying every day, too.
If there's a soldier in all of us, is there any hope for peace, ever?

I think I need a break from video games after seeing that.

I see what you mean. That's pretty terrible. Basically that's saying "yeah it's ok to go to war and kill people. look, it's fun and very entertaining. Not to mention people DIE BY FREAKING GUNS!" There's a difference between seeing it in a video game and seeing real people...everyday people...turn some place in to a warzone. THAT doesn't sit well with me. There was a chance I'd buy the game before...and maybe I'm taking this commercial too seriously but there is no way I'm buying it now to support that kind of mentality. Talk about desensitizing people...
