In general, it is a good idea to play 60 cards, which is the minimum according to the rules. The reason for this is that you will typically have a few cards which actually do the winning for you, and if you cut down on other cards, you will be more likely to draw them.
I think you let me play with 120 at one point.
I think I probably told you, but you couldn't find anything to cut. At least that's what I did when I started playing. Everyone in my group where playing 90-card blue-white permission decks with hardly any creatures. You couldn't really play any important spells unless you had two or three counterspells in hand to back it up. Hours of fun.
I can imagine. In my group we seem to have setled to 75 cards for some weird reason. Also, lots of creatures. What comes to counterspells, it is extremely frustrating to play against two blue/black control decks, without a single blue deck. >.>
