In the campaign, hell no. The computer there probably gets free resources to keep on fighting whatever happens - in some missions the enemy just gets free units too. In a quickmatch or melee vs. AI, its pretty invaluable. Killing workers means that the opponent's income is decreased, and that you can field more troops and tech than they can, thus ensuring military superiority. Of course, this depends on whether you're actually spending your own minerals :P.
The first rule of being a ninja is "do no harm". Unless you intend to do harm, then do lots of harm.
