Edit:
I'm so happy. I was finally able to log in, too bad it's only two days left on the beta, and I'll be quite busy these days, at least now it looks like I'll be able to play from the beginning when it goes live.
I started playing an Asmodian Mage, mostly since I want to play an Elyos healer when the game goes live.
The graphics look very nice even on a low setting as I play on, there was a bit lag, but NCsoft is aware of that problem and is working on it.
I only got to level six, but the mage seems to be a good damage class as it is in most games, and very vulnerable in close combat. I assume it is not the easiest class to level, so far I haven't seen any kind of protection buffs from magic, maybe that comes later. And the many regenerate very slowly. There are potions, but they are very expensive for someone in the beginning of the game.
The armour and weapons in the beginning you get from buying them or quests as is normal in most mmorpgs. Most armour seem to have slots where you can use "mana stones" which give you an extra buff. The mana stones drop randomly from mobs.
The quest lines have been rather fun and simple so far. I assume you can say the tutorial goes on until level 10 or so.
I'm not sure which level you get wings, but I'm really looking forward to testing my wings.
There is lore that can be read in the wiki on the Aion site. I'm not much for lore in games, but it's a bit fun to read some times.
If you have a good computer and normal internet connection I asssume this game will give you a lot of joy. If you like mmorpgs of course.
I was hoping I would be able to play the Aion beta this week. It is a mmorpg. Where as I understand wings and flight is a large part of the fighting and game play in later stages.
There are two opposing factions, the Asmodians(I had a geek moment here that if I played against them I could claim I killed Asmo), and the Elyos. Both these races where once humans who "Ascended" and got power buy the gods to be able to fight the Balaur that have recently surfaced again. The Asmodians and the Elyos where once the same race but had a falling out and they now live on different sides of a divided world.
As I said earlier I hoped to be able to play the beta, however they have had a lot of problems first with the Gameguard, a program to stop bots and similar, it is a rather controversial piece of software that have many ordinary programs it don't get along with. Firewalls is just one of many. Then they also have had problems with the authentication server, both these have stopped many from playing in the current beta phase.
Another problem they have had that they say they are working on is the beta forum, apparently most that have got an invite lately haven't been able to log in there and get help with these issues because they haven't updated the forums on time.
Those who have been able to log in have reported bad lag especially on the North American servers. They are working on that too.
This is a beta test, it ends on Friday. Some problems are of course expected. But I'm very disappointed that I and many others that have a beta invite haven't been able to even log in.
However it does look like a great game and I hope these problems are fixed at launch if it is not I'll have to demand my money back for my pre purchase. One reason I got it was for the beta invite, however not the only reason luckily.
