You could try the fall from heaven two mod for Civ IV. It's a fantasy mod and it's pretty much the only reason I am playing Civ IV nowadays anyway.

Company of Heroes is a good game but I don't know if you would be interested in WWII. Or go old school and find a copy of Zeus and Poseidon, the pinnacle of city building genre.

Zeus was pretty good - Poseidon just seemed to drag (I don't think I ever finished it and I really liked Zeus). I spent some time finding it - I think I could only find it on ebay and it was like $10.

Also, for CIV IV, I really liked the Road to War mod, too. The Crusader campaign in the default game was also pretty fun.
