Leave it to the "King" to try and say something modest, yet find himself unable to do so. I mean, give him credit for trying to say "it's all about the team" but does he REALLY have to say "I could win the scoring title every year if I really tired"? If he's so confident, why does he need to say it? Does he really think he's that much better than Kobe and Durant? Because I have news for LeBron, he's not. Kobe easily has a much better skill set and Durant for his age is better than LeBron was.
The "King" as usual is ridiculously full of himself.
The "King" as usual is ridiculously full of himself.
Seriously though, if you think about it, he's right. If all he wanted to do was score points individually then he could do it. Think about all the assists that dishes out... he could just keep most of them for himself.
If you look at how Kobe and Lebron play, Kobe is more on the ball and Lebron is more off the ball. If Lebron just wanted to score points, he could do a lot more...
If anything, Kobe is off the ball much more than LeBron, because LeBron plays "point forward" as some call it. He's essentially the point guard for that team most of the time. Kobe on the other hand is a pure shooting guard. LeBron is a great player, no question and a physical specimen. But the simple fact is that he has no where NEAR Kobe's skill set.
Kobe can post up a smaller guard, take it to the hoop against a bigger guard. He can nail the pull up jumper and is one of the best 3 point shots in the game and he has easily the best fade away in the game right now. All that amounts to a versatility that you just don't see from LeBron. I give LeBron credit. He can drive like no other and is incredibly athletic. But he doesn't have low post moves, he doesn't have a great shot (it's streaky at best) and he definitely doesn't have a fade away. In terms of pure scoring, Kobe, the man who scored 81 points and 64 through 3 quarters at the very least deserves CONSIDERATION. Something LeBron won't even acknowledge.
If Kobe REALLY wanted to win the scoring title, I think he'd edge out LeBron. That's my personal opinion, but we'll never know. What we do know is that LeBron is not that much better than Kobe to make it a no contest assumption that if he tried he'd win.
That's just ignorant.
Well of course Kobe COULD win the scoring title if that's all he wanted, but (and I'm assuming) that that isn't what Lebron was assuming. I mean, if it was just Lebron and Kobe trying to score as much as they could, then it wouldn't be so easy to predict.
I was just going under the assumption that Kobe plays the way he normally does and Lebron would just do more (by himself). He could certainly win the title every year in that case.
IMO he wasn't trying to say that Kobe couldn't do it if he tried, but just that he (Lebron) could win the scoring title if that's all he wanted to do in any given year (while the other players, like Kobe, Dwight Howard, etc., played to actually win).
I GUESS it's open to interpretation. But it really didn't sound like that to me. Given LeBron's ego, I wouldn't be surprised if he meant that no one but him period could take a scoring title if he tried.
You must unlearn what you have learned.
