but take rap for example. Rap is very much considered "black music" in the US. Even if they sell well, white rappers are often the laughing stock of pop culture. White guys emulating the rap culture are viewed as posing and possibly even mocking the "black culture" of rap.

So maybe the designation as "Black music" isn't necessarily negative by default...but when practically applied it often is.
