...and Fella had a good, enjoyable and Loved life till the end. A lot more than he would've had if my mother hadn't picked him up at a shelter three years ago when he'd been there so long the pavement where he lay had worn a bare patch on his rump. He's a good boy, and we will miss him, but we will not forget him.
That was the part that got me. That he had been neglected or abused for so long but had at least three years of his life where he was safe, happy and loved. And they were the last three years so he could leave...feeling good about the world.
Bless you and your mom for entertaining that sweet angel unawares.
Love,
Teresa
That and the good times, like when he'd hop in the car to cruise. His fur had been shaved when the shelter got him, in Georgetown, which has a university in the center, so they think a college kid got him as a cute widdle puppy and found he'd grown into this huge monster of a 50 lb. dog by the end of the year, so they just turned him loose and went home to wherever they were from without him. We probably got him in the nick of time, and I firmly believe we gave him a good and Loving home where he was happy and knew he was safe and welcome. Which is what I think he's got now, too.
