1: For services, do you shop primarily by price or by reputation? Are you willing to pay a little more for better service or knowledge?
Reputation counts for a lot. If friends/family have received good service somewhere I am much more likely to go to a place, and willing to pay more.
Normally I am happy to assume (within reason) high price = high quality. Therefore on services where quality/knowledge matter I normally wouldn't bother with a significantly cheaper option unless it has been recommended to me (I'd be wondering what the catch was). It may not always work out best, but normally does at least.
2: Which attracts your attention more: always a lower price that doesn't vary or a coupon or other special discount on a higher price?
Coupons/special discounts. I'm getting a better deal that way.
(I really am a marketers dream. I am exactly the type person all those ads on TV are aimed at, thankfully I am also brand/product loyal, so however good those deals look, they are unlikely to get my money unless they would be anyway.).
3: Any cost-effective promotional or advertising ideas you've got or noticed around?
Buy x many and get a discount (either done as buy so many and get the next one at a discount, or the buy so many at a time and they work out cheaper.
